A Mumbai Indians (MI) spokesperson has opened up on the rumours surrounding their captain Hardik Pandya’s trade to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2027 season. Notably, there have been multiple reports of the star player heading to different franchises.
While speaking to Sportstar on Saturday, August 1, an MI spokesperson confirmed that the franchise’s post-season review is currently ongoing, denying all the rumours surrounding Pandya’s trade to another franchise.
“Our post-season review is currently on and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete. A range of options and ideas are being evaluated, which require time; hence, no decisions have been made,” an MI spokesperson told Sportstar.
For the unversed, Pandya had an exceptional captaincy record with the Gujarat Titans (GT), propelling them to a title win in IPL 2022 and to the grand finale in IPL 2023. However, since moving to the MI franchise, he couldn’t take his side to the playoffs in two out of three seasons.
Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh has asserted that the Chennai-based franchise should not rope in Pandya if the all-rounder is looking for the captaincy role.
“The biggest question is whether CSK needs Hardik Pandya. The answer is both yes and no. Firstly, there is no way CSK should let go of youngsters. Yet, CSK are in desperate need of proven players. So as a player, CSK needs Hardik Pandya. But, he is absolutely not needed as a captain. I’ve always seen Hardik Pandya as two parts – an extraordinary cricketer and a poor captain,” Sadagoppan Ramesh said on his Instagram handle.
