Ravi Ashwin picks India’s probable squad for ICC ODI World Cup 2027

Former Indian spinner and commentator Ravi Ashwin has shared his views on which players he thinks will make the cut for the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Moreover, he has also picked the players who fall into the ‘maybe’ category and those who will not make the cut. Speaking exclusively to Cricinfo’s YouTube channel, Ashwin has picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his squad.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a yes. I would communicate to him. Get him to play all the tournaments, first-class, Vijay Hazare, everything, and get him primed going to South Africa. I think we will need him there,” Ashwin said on Cricinfo’s YouTube channel.

Speaking about Bhuvneshwar’s international experience in South Africa, in 13 matches, he has picked up 19 wickets at an average of 35.25 with the best bowling figures of 5/24. Interestingly, only two out of those 19 wickets came in ODIs in eight instances.

Bhuvi ended the IPL 2026 season as the second-highest wicket-taker with 28 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 17.89, with an economy rate of 7.95. In 121 ODIs, the veteran pacer has taken 141 wickets at an average of 35.11 and an economy rate of 5.08, with best figures of 5/42.
