Former Indian keeper-batter Deep Dasgupta has asserted that India needs to forget about their WTC 2025–27 final qualification and work on improving their Test team instead, as they are currently undergoing a transition period.
Dasgupta, while speaking on his YouTube channel, acknowledged that the red-ball team is indeed in a phase of transition, urging the Indian players to concentrate on making meaningful improvements in their performances.
“I want to see much more development. Are we improving? Yes, there is inexperience and it’s a transition, but it’s important to see the improvement. In fact, I am going to say something that people may not like, but for the time being, it’s better to forget about WTC Final Qualification,” said Deep Dasgupta on his official YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the ex-Indian keeper-batter also advised the Indian team to get back to the 2020-21 days when the Indian Test team used to dominate both overseas and home conditions.
“It’s better not to talk about it. In my opinion, what we should instead focus on is how to make the Indian Test team like the one in 2020-21, like that phase where India were winning overseas and winning home series as well,” he added.
For India to make it to the WTC 2025-27 final, they need to win at least three out of their four Tests in Sri Lanka and New Zealand. India is currently holding the fifth rank in the World Test Championship (WTC 2025-27) standings, with a point percentage of 48.15, and Sri Lanka is placed sixth with 41.67.
